Talk by Yoav Daniel Bar-Ness:

Ambassador Trees of Tasmania and California
Superlatively tall trees: Tasmanian redwoods & giant bluegums.

Thursday 2nd May 2024

Join us for an evening with Yoav Daniel Bar-Ness to hear him speak about giant trees and how special they are.

Yoav is a passionate forest canopy ecologist and has spent many years working with (and in) some of the tallest trees in the world. He is the editor of the online magazine Tasmanian Geographic and puts a lot of time into various outreach work through the community, helping us all to understand and appreciate the importance of our majestic forests and the trees that make them up.

The format will follow our regular monthly get togethers, which will be a quick catch up on what’s going on with the club, Yoav will then present and afterwards you can grab a cuppa and ask more questions or just hang around and have a chat.

All welcome

7.15 pm for a 7.30 pm start.
UTAS Sandy Bay Campus in the Law Building Seminar Room (Room 132)

Sunday 5th May 2024

Yoav will be guiding us to the Grove of Giants in the Huon Valley.

Meet at 9.30 am at the Summer Kitchen Bakery, 21 Marguerite St, Ranelagh, where we can grab a coffee and congregate before we head off.

We may need to carpool, depending on the weather and the possible need for 4wd vehicles. Although no formal registrations for this field day are required, if you do intend on coming please email Fiona at enquiries@tasfieldnats.org.au so we have an idea of the numbers.

iNaturalist

Since June 2021, observations from TFNC excursions have been recorded as projects on iNaturalist.

More observations made on excursions can be added at any time, so it is never too late. If you are familiar with any of the species observed, we would appreciate if you could either agree with the species ID or suggest the possible ID so the observation can become “research quality” and available to other users.

You may also become a member of the TFNC umbrella project to receive notifications from iNaturalist when excursions are updated.
