About:

Vishnu is a geographer whose work spans saltmarsh and wetland ecology, science communication, environmental planning, sustainability, and political economy. His mission-oriented and place-based approach integrates ecological and social science to support conservation and sustainability outcomes.

This talk summarises several saltmarsh restoration projects undertaken in recent years across Tasmania. Studies tracking recovery show clear native vegetation recovery and improved habitat for fish and invertebrates, alongside emerging evidence of broader benefits for biodiversity and ecosystem services.

The talk also highlights the importance of community connection in supporting successful restoration and conservation. It outlines how current work is being extended to better understand human–nature connections and create more opportunities for people to engage with wetlands across Tasmania, while also recognising the value of understanding past landscape change to help inform future restoration.
