Place: Mount Field National Park (Meeting at the Mount Field Visitor Centre)
A valid Tasmania Parks Pass is required for entry.

Time: 9:30am for a 10.00am start.

Travel time: Allow approximately 1 hour 20 minutes to drive from Hobart GPO to Mount Field National Park (around 75 km) via the Lyell Highway (A10) through New Norfolk.

About: Mount Field is renowned for its rich biodiversity and diverse habitats, ranging from cool temperate rainforest and tall eucalypt forests to alpine heathlands on the higher plateau. Established in 1916, it is one of Australia’s oldest national parks. The park is home to the iconic Russell Falls, whose beauty helped inspire the protection of the area more than a century ago. The easy rainforest walk to the falls passes beneath giant tree ferns, moss-covered trees, and some of the world’s tallest flowering plants. We might see towering swamp gums (Eucalyptus regnans), myrtle beech, sassafras, tree ferns, mosses and fungi. Wildlife may include green rosellas, black currawongs, fantails, pink robins, pademelons, and Bennett’s wallabies.

Depending on the group’s interests and available time, there may be opportunities to visit nearby highlights such as Horseshoe Falls and/or the Tall Trees Walk. For more information Mount Field National Park | Parks & Wildlife Service Tasmania.
