Closing down the TFNC Library

The June 2023 TFNC committee meeting and the subsequent general meeting agreed to close TFNCs library. Mainly because of the inaccessibility of the library cupboard in the Life Sciences Building and the record of minimal library book borrowings over the previous ten or so years.

The Library subcommittee decided that in the first instance the club would:

  • retain a single copy of any book it had published and these would be moved into the TFNC’s own Archives Collection. A list of these books may be found here
  • offer our remaining books to members at advantageous prices, in a series of sales to be held at the conclusion of the September, October, November and December 2023 meetings.
  • The books available at each of these meetings will be advertised on our website approximately ten days before the upcoming general meeting and via the Presidents monthly email which is circulated approximately one week prior to each meeting.

It was agreed that the funds raised from the sale of these books would be donated to the Tasmanian Land Conservancy (TLC) The first book sale consisting of ‘Rare and High Interest Books’ was held at the end of the September General meeting and it raised $665.

OCTOBER, NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER BOOK SALES

  • ‘Nearly’ the same ‘ground rules’ as those used for the September book sale will apply for the next three upcoming sales:
  • These books will be mostly for sale for a ‘Gold coin donation’ or FOC (free of charge) although some books are still priced for $5 or more
  • Receipts will NOT be written for books sold free or for a gold coin donation, unless requested.
  • If more than one person wants the same book, then it is up to them to agree who gets the book or maybe share it? Dice will be on hand again to help the decision making!
  • If members are unable to get to the meeting; please contact another member and ask them to acquire the books for you. The Library subcommittee cannot do this for you.
  • Bring Cash and Gold Coins! But please don’t bring $50 or $100 notes – we won’t have much change, so correct money will be helpful.
  • For larger sales, some members may be comfortable transferring money via their phones, at the time of sale directly into the Clubs’ account. The clubs’ banking details will be clearly displayed at the meeting.
  • Prices are not negotiable (they are a bargain anyway!)
  • There are some sets of books which cannot be broken. They will only be sold as a set!

At the conclusion of the next three General meetings the following book categories of books will be for sale:
